Responsibilities
Monitor and report on key metrics such as cash collections, unbilled, denials, days outstanding. Lead bi-weekly metric reviews and ensure undesirable trends are investigated and addressed. Maintain an effective process for reviewing and reducing denials.
Develops, implements and monitors revenue cycle/patient financial services processes to ensure accurate documentation and processing of those services.
In conjunction with the CFO, lead operational directives for Patient Accounting activities related to claims management and collection of receivables to ensure timely, efficient cash collections to support FHP's strategic initiatives.
Oversee and support patient access activities throughout the hospital system. Ensure workflows and tools are in place to create accurate patient registration documentation and timely patient scheduling.
Maintain compliance with internal controls related to cash collections and postings to Patient Accounting system. Ensure compliance with State and Federal pricing transparency rules to include availability of pricing information and good faith estimates.
Select and monitor outside collection and outreach vendors to assure appropriate collection methods are used.
Maintain effective communication with third party insurance carriers to resolve issues and facilitate timely collections. Participate in contract negotiations with targeted payers. Ensure timely and accurate response to billing or patient access audits. Ensure processes are reviewed, as necessary, to correct any compliance issues with State and Federal billing requirements.
Collaborates with other business entity leadership, as well as practice management leadership. Develops work goals and objectives in accordance and alignment with company goals; provides measures and feedback, leadership and motivation for staff achievement of departmental goals.
Monitors and troubleshoots issues related to revenue cycle processes and coordinates business entity resources required to resolve issues. Identifies and implements opportunities to improve the revenue cycle for greater reimbursement. This may include, but is not limited to, organizing the modification of existing processes to gain efficiencies, educating staff on appropriate processes to reduce errors, and coordinating with practice management to ensure understanding of process flow.
Directs personnel actions including recruiting, hiring, compensation review, training and annual staff evaluations.
Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, management, or related field.
Requires knowledge of hospital or clinic revenue cycle and/or patient access normally demonstrated through six (6) or more years of direct experience, with a minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in leadership.
Knowledge of various types of health insurance and other third-party reimbursement, healthcare billing practices, healthcare billing computer systems.
Requires demonstrated ability to recognize opportunities for creating operational efficiencies. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as effective human relations skills for building and maintaining a working relationship with all levels of staff, physicians, and other contacts. This includes demonstrating strong influential and negotiation skills in a highly complex, matrix reporting organization.
Must have excellent analytical and data interpretation skills and proficiency in database and spreadsheet software.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous management of professional level staff highly preferred.
Cerner and/or Med Series 4 experience preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
