The Medical Assistant-Resident (MA-Resident) is a full-time MultiCare employee while also participating as a student in a Medical Assistant training program that is supported/recognized by MultiCare. The MA-Resident may perform duties under the direction of a mentor/preceptor in alignment with the topics that the MA-Resident has studied or practiced in the Medical Assistant training program. This is a paid, benefits eligible training program with a two-year commitment to work for MultiCare after completion. Opportunities are available in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Kitsap, and Thurston counties. Minimum Requirements:
Must be enrolled in a recognized Medical Assistant training program that is in partnership with MultiCare. (This is already taken care of by MultiCare)
High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred one (1) year experience with direct patient care in clinical or hospital setting Program information:
The program is about 18 weeks in length depending on holiday closures. Vacation time is not permitted during the 18-week training program. Trainees will work 40 hours per week.
During this time, students will participate in the program 8 hours per day through various learning modalities. Training takes place on various days/times but will generally occur Monday-Friday between 8am and 5pm. Note: There may be a couple of weeks during the program that have Saturday required for Labs Training. When that occurs, there will be another day off in that week to compensate for that Saturday.
Self-guided study including reading assignments and watching of recorded lectures. Training takes place on various days/times but will generally occur Monday-Friday between 8am and 5pm.
Virtual classrooms with the Medical Assistant Instructor. Training takes place on various days/times but will generally occur Monday-Friday between 8am and 5pm.
In-person skills training will take place in either Puyallup or Renton. Training will be with the Medical Assistant Instructor. Training takes place on various days/times but will generally occur Monday-Friday between 8am and 5pm.
There will be additional in-person clinical training in a MultiCare clinic.
Candidate will be responsible (during hire process), for scrubs, stethoscope, and textbooks. The MA Program will provide more information on that later.
Upon completion of the program students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association's Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Exam.
Upon successful completion of the program/education MultiCare will cover the first testing attempt for the MA certification.

Please review these tracks carefully, as we will ask you to select your top choice!Indigo TrackIndigo offers Urgent Care, Occupational Medicine and Primary Care services throughout Pierce, King, Snohomish, Kitsap, and Thurston Counties.Indigo Clinics are built from customer's perspective to deliver a seamless health care experience that is a "better way to get better" for our customers, our teams, and our communities. Indigo offers an innovative, fast paced, and dynamic work experience, in a modern, upscale clinic in most neighborhoods around the region. Typical duties and skills performed by a Medical Assistant in the Indigo track are:
Registration
Rooming patients: obtaining vital signs, reviewing their chief complaint and medications, discharging the patient
X-ray
Wound care
Splinting
Injections
Nebulizers
Ear lavage
Point of care testing: covid, flu, urine testing, pregnancy testing, strep, glucose
Phlebotomy
Visual exams
Drug testing (Occupational Medicine clinics only)Urgent Care Clinics see patients of all ages for minor illnesses and injuries. Clinics are open 7 days a week from 8 AM- 8 PM. Typical work schedule is flexible with only 3, 12-hour shifts per week.Occupation Medicine Clinics see patients 16 and older who are injured on the job. Clinics are opened 5 days a week. Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday 8 hour shifts.Indigo Primary Care Clinics (King County only) provide care for pages 18-64 years old, in person or via virtual. Clinics are open 3-4 days a week, no Sundays or Holidays and a typical schedule is 3-4 10-hour shifts.Traditional Track MMA and Mary Bridge Children's Clinics deliver primary care and specialty care to patients across the Puget Sound Region. As a Medical Assistant, your role is to guide the patient through the visit, assist the Doctor or Advanced Practice Provider with anything they need, and make sure the patient knows what their next steps are before leaving. Typical duties and skills performed by a Medical Assistant in the traditional track are:
Rooming patients, taking vitals, discharging patients at the end of the visit.
Giving vaccines, nebulizers, simple wound care, hearing screening, vision screening, ear lavage, point of care testing (urine testing, pregnancy testing, blood sugar testing).
Draw blood and run labs.
Assisting Doctor or Advanced Practice provider with procedures
Chart review and prep for future visits.
Occasionally helping with prior authorizations/FMLA
Patient calls and messages. Differences in types of clinics:Mary Bridge sees pediatric patients (infant to 18) and has all the same specialties that MMA also has, just with children only. Primary Care sees patients from birth to death, lifespan of care. Surgical specialties: General surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, ENT, GI, Plastics, Ophthalmology. Medical specialties: Rheumatology (auto immune), Neurology, infectious disease, endocrinology (diabetes), developmental care/complex pediatrics, nephrology (kidneys), oncology (cancer), pain management. Women's: pregnant patients and gynecology, adolescent thru older adults, surgical, medical, procedural, reproductive and gender care. While most MMA and Mary Bridge clinics are Monday-Friday, some have Saturday hours. Clinic shifts may be five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts, depending on the clinic.
