Tower 5 in a 36-bed inpatient unit providing care to adults, specializing in care of the stroke patient. We have 8 beds (deemed the "stroke pod") dedicated to acute stroke patients, patients who are undergoing testing to rule out a stroke or transient ischemic event (TIA). We partner with many different disciplines to achieve complete stroke care and the patient's safe discharge from the hospital setting: Neurologists, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Case Managers and others. Our patients undergo unique testing, in accordance with our Stroke Pathway, and in alignment with our DNV accredited stroke program. The unit houses the Director, Nurse Educator, and hospital Stroke Coordinator, providing significant leadership support within arm's reach. Our orientation is robust, pairing staff with a Preceptor, and partnering with Clinical Education to offer our RNs the Nurse Residency Program. Thereafter, professional development remains a cornerstone, and RNs and PCAs have the opportunity to promote to higher levels, advancing their skills and position on the Career Ladder. An additional opportunity to RNs is the One C.L.E.A.R. Pathway and portfolio submission, professional growth captured via application, making the RN eligible for a monetary bonus annually. Finally, staffing is highly prioritized; differentials, as well as pay incentives beyond overtime, exist at times to positively impact patient care and recognize staff for going above and beyond.
