BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 1. Preferred Experience: Current BLS/ACLS certification; Current CPFT/RPFT certification; 2 years experience with Bronchoscopy or PFT. GRADE DETERMINATION: Registered Respiratory Therapist, GS-12 (a) Experience, Licensure and Credential. Candidates must have: i. One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level demonstrating the clinical competencies described at that level. ii. Hold an active license and RRT credential. The following certifications are desirable but not required: CPFT RPFT RPSGT (b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) In addition to the requirements above, candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs: Knowledge of complex pulmonary function testing and stress/exercise testing. Ability to maintain a quality control program related to pulmonary function testing. Ability to treat acute complications for all pulmonary function testing. Skill in performing polysomnographic studies to include obtaining both physiologic and diagnostic data. Skill in calibrating and troubleshooting polysomnographic equipment and physiologic and diagnostic monitoring. Prioritizes consults which include scheduling to the appropriate clinic, assists physicians with pulmonary diagnostic related concerns, and arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Resolves technical work problems with the aid of references, such as manuals, troubleshooting guides, technical support and other reference sources. Reports progress and resolution of problems to Home Oxygen/Diagnostic Section Coordinator, Chief, Respiratory Care or Medical Director, respectively. Conducts home oxygen evaluations and re-assessments to determine the need for initiating or terminating oxygen based on appropriate policies, procedures and guidelines for testing, secondary to other diagnostic functions as needed or as directed. Participates in the complex decision making process of respiratory care at many levels: patient observation, examination and education equipment preparation and usage, data collection and analysis, and evaluation of the need for initiation of, termination or modification of the services. Performs all aspects of Respiratory Care to include, but are not limited to mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, oximetry assessments, bronchodilator therapy, hyperinflation therapy and chest physical therapy, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, and routine maintenance for all respiratory/ diagnostic studies. Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area (i.e. adult and geriatric patient populations).
