Job Summary: Collects, monitors and interprets information accurately on cancer and cancer related patients. Treatment data is collected from sources outside of the reporting facility. Codes, classifies and indexes stage of disease and treatment information. Ensures that staging forms are completed and physicians are prepared to report to the Tumor Board. Reports to the Cancer Program Administrator. Assists in the coordination of Cancer Program development. Assesses and monitors compliance of the hospital�s Cancer Program with regulatory requirements as set forth by CoC and The Joint Commission. Reports all abstracted data to CCR within the six month time frame in the timely manner from the initial diagnosis and other cancer related malignancies as required by state law. Provides direction for the coordination of the CoC Survey process. Assesses and identifies changes that are needed in each of the eligibility requirements. Researches and stays abreast of Cancer Program standards, makes suggestions to the Cancer Program Administrator, Cancer Committee, and Tumor Registry to ensure compliance with the CoC accrediting body. Participates in the coordination and implementation of policies and procedures for the Cancer Program. Disseminates a report of patient outcomes to the oncologists/physicians and Cancer Committee and makes recommendations for corrective actions. Performs other duties as assigned related to Initiating the Cancer Program and Survey preparation. #LI-PP1
Qualifications:
Required Education: A.S. or Equivalent Preferred: B.A./B.S.
Required License/Certification: Certified Cancer/Tumor Registrar Certification. Computer experience and proficiency in the use of multiple software packages. Prior experience in an established cancer registry.
