The Nursing Supervisor (NS) functions under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Manager (NM) and assumes responsibility for the Nursing Department in his /her absence. The NS directly supervises the nursing staff during his/her designated shift. The NS is responsible for staffing their designated shift based on nurse staffing guidelines and patient acuity. The NS reinforces the mission and vision of the hospital in all interactions with staff, patients and families.

Ensures the nursing department staff performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Assures compliance with nursing scope of practice and HIPAA. Promotes rehabilitation nursing philosophy and practice.
Assists in education and training nursing staff on Functional Independent Measure (FIM) and QI. Ensures timely and accurate FIM/ QI assessments and scoring are performed.
Assists in ensuring compliance of the nursing staff with education/in-service requirements/orientation and competencies.
Rounds on patients and families to ensure patient satisfaction and reports results at quarterly meetings.
Coordinates new admissions, staff assignments and room placement.
Ensures nursing attendance and participation in team conferences.
Assists nursing staff with issues pertaining to patients and visitors.
Responds to all medical or building emergencies.
Completes nursing supervisor report each shift with huddle debriefing communicated.
Leads interdisciplinary safety huddles prompting staff of pertinent information and alerting team of potential acute patients.
Assures unit compliance with Joint Commission and State Department of Health standards.
Accountability with respect to staffing and scheduling.
Assists NM with monthly audit data collection as assigned.
Resolves staff concerns at the departmental level and follows up with NM and/or CCO.
Ensures appropriate staffing based on census and acuity.
Completes special projects in a timely manner.
Identifies educational opportunities for the nursing staff.
Investigates, counsels and disciplines staff as appropriate.
May have patient care assignment in addition to daily responsibilities.
Other duties as assigned.
Graduate of accredited registered nurse program with current Pennsylvania licensure is required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of two years of previous nursing supervisory experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, evaluate and direct activities of clinical personnel; effective oral and written communication skills, in English with additional languages preferred; proficiency in basic computer skills required.
Demonstrates problem solving and critical thinking skills.
