The role of the foot clinic nurse requires individuals who have a high level of clinical competence and compassion. In addition to, a willingness to assume responsibility and accountability for autonomous practice. Qualities and characteristics that address these role expectations include; team oriented professionals who enjoy interactions with seniors, effective communication skills, sound judgment, flexibility and creative problem solving techniques, ability to adapt to diversity and change, and self direction and motivation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assess for foot issues and refer to podiatrist if indicated.
Soak foot and toes in warm water for approximately 10 minutes.
Dry foot and toes thoroughly.
Clip toenails straight across.
File edges of toenails.
Apply lotion to entire foot with the exception of toes. Do not apply lotion between toes.
Document s services and assessments performed in clinical record.
One nurse per clinic will be designated by the scheduler to return supplies and financial transactions of the foot clinic to the home health office. Supplies include but may not be limited to; prepared suitcases, clippers, clean linens.
Reconciliation of inventory used at foot clinics including clippers, towels, and other miscellaneous supplies.
Adheres to all Agency, payroll, billing and documentation policies and procedures.
Functions as a team member demonstrating collaboration with, and responsibility to patient, physician if indicated, and foot clinic scheduler.
Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs to the standard of care for patient's age.
Demonstrates effective time management and organizational skills; provides patient toenail trimmings and foot assessments as scheduled, completes patient care within designated time.
Addresses and supports cultural practices, as long as such practices do not harm others or interfere with the planned course of medical therapy.
Promotes patient/family/caregiver education using various verbal and written communication techniques that take into account the patient's/family's cultural, ethnic and/or personal needs or preferences.
Completes and submits necessary documentation in accordance with Agency policy and applicable regulations.
Submits verification of completed visits in accordance with Agency policy.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Current state licensure as a RN or LPN/LVN.
Experience as an LPN/LVN commensurate with one of the following:
One year experience in an acute care setting within the last 24 months;
Six months home care experience within the last 12 months.
Valid state driver's license and reliable automobile.
